Dear All: It is nearly 2019. To say this year has been full and eventful would be an understatement. But with your help, I have been able to keep going through it all, and to arrive on the doorstep of the new year with my head held high.
I’ve kept up my writing and art, become an award-winning and bestselling author, and now resumed my reading and historical research. I’ve traveled a bit, taken a major exam (the JLPT), and laid down plans for the year ahead that promise to bring good things.
This has all been thanks to standing together.
The battle is not over, of course. There’s still much to do and much to write and bills to pay and so on. (Should you be able to help monetarily, I’d be grateful as ever– please use
ko-fi.com/V7V35JC3 to do so) But I know I can face the year ahead, and continue to accomplish even greater things.
Hot take: people who argue that saying “mood,” “same,” “F,” “oh worm?” etc. add nothing to a conversation don’t realize that they function the same way as aizuchi, i.e. signalling that you’re still paying attention to what the speaker is saying, which is harder to do when you can’t see the other person. So I agree with y’all: this new Tumblr policy is bullshit.
I have no idea how this blog is going to get flagged, come Monday (has anyone called this “pornocalypse” yet? They should!). In my capacity as your favorite Japanese military history expert-now-with-PhD I’ve talked about a lot of gruesome and “adult” things in my blogging here, most notably my extensive writing on warfare, so for all I know, I could get swept up in this and have this account wind up mired down in fighting getting flagged.
That being said: If you want to keep up with me and what I’m doing, please give the following venues a follow.
DM me if you’d like to touch base. I’ll still be here as long as this platform exists and my blog hasn’t been shut down, but in the meantime, my focus is necessarily going to be in places where I can more safely do what I do.
Thanks for your readership and support all these years.
I feel like some of the discussion of Morrigan tends to lump her in with European or Norse ideas of war deities and she’s just so different. She’s arguably not even a war deity in the traditional sense.
The Morrigan rarely fights herself. She’s a talker and a planner and a prophet and poet.
She inspires heroes and sets up leaders.
She’ll go in disguise to judge your merit.
She’ll appear like a monster to test your resolve.
It’s not a case of not fighting, but choosing the moment carefully.
She crosses between this world and the next. She knows death, knows what the cost of fighting can be.
